Local sandbass fishing has been the go to as of late, and this past Sunday didn’t change. Trip departed at 0730 and by 0745 we were on our first fish. With a ton of mackerel around we had to move a lot to stay on top of the bass. Using the Fathometer we were able to pin point fish just away from mass of bait in the area. Utilizing vertically presented lures we efficiently picked at the bass for the next hour with a few nicer grade sculpin mixed in. As that bite slowed we moved to some isolated stones just a few miles down the beach. Picked at a few bass as the tide finished filling and moved to the kelp line in search of surface action calico. A few drifts and just a couple missed bites later we decided it wasn’t happening. We moved back out to deeper water where more current had us back on the sandbass almost every drop. The boys figured out the bite quick and were rewarded with a nice bag by the end of the morning.
