Awesome family and great fishing. 04/08/2026

All winter long while whale watching we’ve been watching the meter. Anytime we are in the sweet spot for fishing rockfish and find a new piece of structure we mark it, and it really paid off for the rockfish opener this season. New spots in easy to reach depths for customers.

Mark and his kids enjoyed very good fishing local for vermillions as well as a great bass bite afterwords. We fished in the 200-240ft depth range making it easier on the kids. Mark got to work with the Daiwa Harrier/Saltist slow pitch setup, loading up on the first drop. I helped with the kids running simple dropperloops with plastic lures. Keeping true to our lure only approach we were able to limit out on the larger grade reds within just an hour. These spots we find in shallower water are usually smaller in size and untouchable by the sportboat fleet. Good grade and consistent bites kept us busy.

Being done with our limit of reds we decided to run some shallower structure. Anchoring up and fished traditionally with live and slab sardine. We were able to pick at a consistent bass bite for a couple hours. We had a black seabass take a calico and got to go on a ride for fifteen minutes before the light wire hook finally failed.

Overall very fun and productive day local out of Dana Point Harbor.
