Inshore

Fun for the whole family

Starting at just $450

This is where Odyssey sportfishing shines. Taking young families out on the water to experience what I love. I pride myself in being able to teach young children about our fishery and show them why I live where I do. My love for the ocean started a long time ago and one of the first fish I remember catching is a calico bass. I’ve accumulated a vast knowledge of our local fishery from experience and extensive research. I would love to share my understanding of the ocean with you on your next trip to Dana Point.

CALICO BASS

Paralabrax clathratus

The target species on most summer trips. Hard fighting, willing to take a lure and excellent table fare. A slow growing fish we implement a “slot limit” on our vessel the Second Chance to ensure the population for future generation.

BARRED SAND BASS

Paralabrax nebulifer

Similar to the calico in table fare the barred sand bass are available year around and can be found in large numbers over rocky reef. In years past these fish would spawn in masses along the Southern California Bite. The bulk Spawn of these migratory group seems to have moved south, yet we still get decent shots at spawn style fishing on the local population. Hard fighting and willing to take the artificial lure makes this another fun species to target.

Dana Point Halibut

California Halibut

Paralichthys californicus

The California Halibut bring excellent table fair and can be a blast to catch. These flat fish live on the bottom over sand and mud using camouflage to ambush their next meal. We take advantage of knowing where and when these fish feed to target them in the spring fall and winter months. Structure and bait location play a large role in targeting this species. Patients is key. We always say a good day is getting one but a great day can be multiple fish.

Rockfish

Sebastes

There are over 60 different species of rockfish that live in the North East Pacific Ocean. Fortunately for us there are large areas within reach of Dana point to load up on these delicious fish. Hitting the “taco stop” to begin a trip is a great way to ensure some table fare for your efforts. Fishing in water 150-600 feet isn’t uncommon when fishing for these grumpy little guys.

White Seabass

Atractoscion nobilis

white seabass are elusive and conditions need to line up correct to target them. That being said when everything does we catch these amazing fish incidentally and usually on light gear & artificial lures.
